Australian Gin Makers List

LAST UPDATED 1 October 2019

Here is the definitive list of Australian Gins with links to their makers which I update monthly, and my reviews which often include an interview with the distiller.

Note, this list does not include multiple gin releases from each distillery.

Gins of various standards have been produced in Australia for quite some while, and one of the earliest references to a commercial gin production is from 1926 from the Federal Distilleries in Port Melbourne (established in 1888 producing mainly whisky) who produced a gin called Crystal Court.

Today we’re living in the golden age of Australian craft gins with inspired use of local botanical  giving them a distinctly Aussie expression. There seems to be no sign of the boom slowing down and I’m adding new makers every two weeks!

If you know of any I’ve missed please get in touch.

  1. Hi great List!
would have loved to hear aboutyour centenary Martini project before your event so we could of promoted from this side !

we also have some great martini vodka’s which are popular with American vistors to our cellar door.

Happy to work with you in the future or provide product for interesting projects.

Soon releasing a second Gin so using a native rosemary so keep in touch.
    cheers

    Dirty Kis Martini

1 shot (30 mls) Kis Samphire Vodka

1 shot (30mls) Kis Wild Gin

    1 splash of Lillet blanc

A few fresh Samphire sprigs (pickled will do) or Olives if easier

    Directions

    1. Rinse the glass with the lillet then place in freezer for 3 – 5 minutes.

    2. Fill a shaker with Vodka and Gin and ample ice . Cover and shake hard till well chilled.

    3. Remove martini glass from freezer. Strain contents of the shaker into the glass, garnish with Samphire sprigs or the olives and, and serve with a mysterious smile.

We also have a vodka infused with Samphire, lime and pepper which works really well in a Margarita……especially the infused Samphire which really takes on the lime from the zest so makes a wonderful garnish in eiother the martini or margarita

    • Hello Jon

Thanks so very much on all counts- great to make the connection!

I had the pleasure of enjoying your lovely gin just recently at a new bar here in Canberra, A.Baker, and was very impressed. When I was sourcing ingredients for the ‘Centini’ many of the Aussie gins were either hard to track down or not up to standard, and I didn’t come across yours on my searches alas. However, there was a subtext to the recipe with WA being represented through the gin, Victoria /Melbourne as the first capital via Maidenii vermouth and so forth.

That said, I host regular soirees for Martini fans locally and I’ve very good relationships with local bars and we can certainly look at working together to introduce your products to a discerning and appreciative audience.

For many people, it was the first time they knew there was Australian gin at all when I crafted the Centenary Martini cocktail, let along that there was quality products like yours. So I’m really happy to keep raising the awareness of it and help in a modest way to create larger market for you all.

I love the recipe…thanks for sharing it… a big fan of Lillet blanc too!

      Cheers

      Phillip

  25. Great list (and one that I’ll be referring back to!).

I found your website when looking for a review of Fossey’s Gin, of which I’ve just been given a bottle. I noticed you listed it as a NSW gin but it’s actually from Mildura in Victoria. I’m looking forward to cracking the bottle open.
