Introducing Tanlines Distillery

This time around I’m bringing you some tropical vibes from the Queensland city of Townsville.

Established as a small family run business in the early 2020’s with the ambition to create sustainably produced spirits inspired by his local region by Aaron Rieniets. With a fresh and easy going vibe, this range is unmistakably from the tropics and is the first distillery in the city.

Being a distillery in the State of Queensland does has some challenges though, not least the sheer size of the place, distance between places up north in particular. But also there is quirk in the law that means that unless you hold a particular hoteliers license you can’t sell in a retail bottle shop or supermarket, which means you are restricted to selling at local markets, online, or at a distillery tasting room.

Hence my writing articles like this to help support smaller operations like Aaron’s.

Overall the two gins and vodka have a natural expression, delicate flavours and the Pink Gin flavoured with Rosella, Lending a subtle sweetness and a hint of musk.

The Dry Gin botanicals feature the classic Juniper, Coriander seed, and Angelica Root, with Australian botanicals such as Strawberry Gum, Desert Lime, Lemon Myrtle and Wattle Seed. These are very well integrated in the spirit and these are all easy drinking and versatile spirits.

I’ve a five minute video on my YouTube channel about the tasting experience, you’ll find it here.

So if you’re looking for gin or vodka that is an unpretentious spirit with plenty of positive vibes, great for mixing in your favourite G + T or cocktail, please check them out.
