Dry July and other upcoming adventures!

Phillip_A_Jones_6Now normally, when someone says ‘Dry July’ I quip that simply means I less Vermouth in my Martinis that month.

But this year I intend to do my bit for charities that support people affected by cancer (and I’m sure you all know someone who has) by pledging to be booze free for the month.

I know, now that’s a challenge for me! But a worthy one I’m sure you’ll agree.

Don’t worry though, I’ve lined up some interesting reviews for things like new tonic waters, and a range of non-alcholic craft products, including a distilled non-alcholic Gin that’s just been released in Australia (now, that’s going to be interesting…) to keep you informed and inspired through July.

My guest contributors also have several interesting articles in the pipeline too for those who prefer the stronger stuff.

So I’m inviting you to support the cause and my endeavours in July by backing a modest donation. If you’re an Australian the donations are also tax deductible. I also plan to do some regular video updates via my Facebook page.

Please just follow this link and thanks for your support.

Upcoming Events in the Canberra Region

Following the fun in Canberra and Perisher Valley to celebrate World Gin Day and World Martini Day recently I’ve several events coming in the next few months.

There’s a series of Australian Whisky appreciation classes and Martini Masterclasses at the lovely Pialligo Estate from August through October. They are selling out quickly, so please reserve your places via their website here.

Also, on July 19th there will be a very special cocktail evening hosted by local lifestyle magazine, HerCanberra. Yours truly will be the guest of honour and I’m creating a special Martini just for the evening featuring a brand new Australian Gin that’s yet to be released, we’re designing it especially for the occasion!

Details will be released on 2 July. Places are limited to 100 tickets and they’ll sell quick. Make sure you tune into HerCanberra via their facebook page or website.

Just in case you’ve missed it, I keep updating the list of Australian distillers each month (they keep coming!) and we’ve welcomed a new guest contributor Simon Darveniza, an Aussie now living in Japan with his own bar. His first article on the wonderful Kinobi Dry Gin is a fascinating read on the very on-trend gins coming out of Japan now.

As always, don’t forget to tune into my Instagram feed for daily Martini and craft spirit inspiration!

Thanks for tuning in, be well.
